A Good Work

“…Being confident of this,
that he who began a good work in you will carry it on to completion until the
day of Christ Jesus.” – Philippians 1:6, NIV
Sarah spent years trying to
make the “right” choices. She went to the “right” college, married the “right”
kind of man, got a job in the “right” field. But for all of her choices, Sarah
often felt disconnected from her life.
She felt more like she was
going through the motions than she was actually living. Sarah was terrified
that she’d make a mistake and that fear was smothering her. She didn’t even
realize it until her three-year-old son got sick and had to be hospitalized.
Sarah’s mother caught a plane
and joined her as they waited for news at the local hospital. “I can’t do it
anymore, Mom,” Sarah confessed. “I’m overwhelmed and frazzled and my soul feels
like it can’t breathe.”
For hours, Sarah’s mom
listened as she poured out her pain. Then Sarah’s mother made a simple suggestion.
“Stop trying so hard. God has begun a good work in you and He’ll see it
through. He’s not counting on your strength or will. You don’t have to do
anything but cling to the Vine.”
God, help me when I feel like it all depends on me. Remind
me that this is Your show and You’re completing a good work here. I surrender
everything I have into Your hands. Help me to focus on just clinging to You. In
Jesus’ name, Amen.
